CROTON TIGLIUM

Croton Tiglium.

Croton Oil Seeds. Euphorbiaceae.

The Croton seed is spoken of by Avicenna and Serapion. Christoph d'Acosta is the first European who described it, which was in the year 1578. The physicians of the seventeenth century used it very little. In modern times, on account of its medicinal oil, it was brought more to the notice of physicians.

The effects of the oil taken or applied are recorded in the Encyclopaedia, vol. 3, p. 606, the principal symptoms being from J. Buchner's collection of provings published in Archiv. f. Hom., vol. 19, p. 113.
