Naja Tripudians.

Cobra Poison. Elapidae.

The Cobra di Capello is the hooded snake of Hindostan usually employed by the snake charmers of India.

Provings by Stokes (Br. Jour. of Hom., vol. 11, p. 25, 1853), Russel (Br. Jour. of Hom., vol. 11, p. 593); other authorities, Du Chaillu, Fayrer, etc., have reported symptoms of the bite (Allen's Encyclopaedia, vol. 6, p. 447).

MIND. [1]

Easily excited.
Great depression of spirits, with temporo-frontal headache, spinal pain and palpitation of heart.
Melancholy; began to form images of possible wrongs and misfortunes over which the mind broods; very wretched at times.
Suicidal insanity, broods constantly over imaginary troubles; sleep full of frightful dreams, and wakes with dull pain in head and fluttering of heart; uneasy dryness of fauces; grasping of throat, with sensation of choking and lividity of face. ~ Melancholia.
Paroxysms, twice a day, of delirium, incessant talking, seeing visions, imagines she is in a terrible rainstorm, complains of being so cold, and that the carriage has turned over and hurt her head. ~ Cerebro-spinal meningitis.
Dragging and anxiety at precordia, occurring in great grief; also smarting pains in back from same cause.

INNER HEAD. [3]

Heaviness of eyes, with dryness of throat.
Temporo-frontal headache, depression of spirits; spinal pain; palpitation of heart.
Congestive headache dependent upon organic disease of heart.
Waking with dull pain in head, attended by fluttering of heart.
Weight and pressure at vertex, with cold feet and flushes of face.
Pain in head, ringing in ears, palpitation, small, quick, nervous pulse; constipation; abdomen large; urine scanty and sedimentitious. ~ Nervous headache.
Neuralgic pain in head, preceded or followed by nausea or vomiting; pain severe in left orbital region, extended back to occiput; aching around orbit, increased to throbbing, and thence it was drawing in character to back of head; from overeating, mental or physical exertion.
Since cessation of menses eight years ago, subject to agonizing pain in head, depriving her of sense and memory; pain comes on at noon; pain in upper part of back, and flushes of face; has not been more than two or three days free from an attack for some years; sleep profound; pulse regular and small.
Awakes with headache every morning; dull, heavy constriction across forehead; eyes sunken and dark; incapacity for much exertion of mind or body; headache sometimes wears off, at other times continues all day; constant relaxed sore throat, dryness of fauces, hoarseness; very susceptible to cold; frequent emissions. ~ Chronic headache.
Dull shoots up occiput; tired feeling in cervical and dorsal vertebrae, with peculiar burning of exhaustion; spinal irritation.

SIGHT AND EYES. [5]

Eyes fixed and staring.
Passive congestion of palpebral conjunctiva; lids look bluish and are glued together in morning.

UPPER FACE. [8]

Livid face.

LOWER FACE. [9]

Foaming at mouth.

INNER MOUTH. [12]

Great dryness of mouth.

PALATE AND THROAT. [13]

Pressure and gagging in throat.
Constriction and dryness of throat.
Grasping at throat, with sense of choking.
Esophagismus or spasmodic stricture of esophagus.
Soreness and pricking in left side of throat.
Pharyngo-laryngeal inflammation, with dark red color of fauces and spasmodic, irritable cough.
After catching cold, pain in throat and frequent tendency to short cough; three days later, heat of skin, quick, full pulse, flushed face; tongue white, moist and large; right tonsil swollen, with sharp pain in it, as from needles; short, hard cough, agg. at night; pain up right side of neck; finally incessant cough; considerable heat of skin; fauces red; larynx tender to touch, with inclination to cough when pressure was made there; tonsils swollen. ~ Acute pharyngo-laryngitis.
Diphtheria in cases just like Laches., when larynx is invaded; patient grasps at throat, with sensation of choking, fauces dark red, fetid breath, short, hoarse cough, with raw feeling in upper part of trachea.
Diphtheria with impending paralysis of heart; patient blue; awakens from sleep gasping; pulse intermittent and thready.

SCROBICULUM AND STOMACH. [17]

Dyspepsia with foul white or yellowish white tongue; rawness of throat; soreness of stomach or pressive pain.

STOOLS AND RECTUM. [20]

Diarrhea; white, slimy, greenish stools.
Constipation; difficult, painful evacuations.

URINARY ORGANS. [21]

Urine yellow, loaded with mucus.

FEMALE SEXUAL ORGANS. [23]

Crampy pains in left ovary with severe palpitation.
Ovarian congestive neuralgia, with violent palpitation.
Thin, whitish leucorrhea in afternoon.

VOICE AND LARYNX. TRACHEA AND BRONCHIA. [25]

Constrictive irritation of larynx, giving rise to coughing.
Spasmodic croup; clogging up of larynx and trachea with thick mucus, which is hawked up with difficulty.
Sensation of rawness in larynx and trachea, or as if there was a hair in it, causing constant tickling, coughing and hoarseness; finally some expectoration of tenacious mucus; breathing laborious; gasping for breath for several hours.
Diphtheria invading larynx; impending paralysis of heart.

RESPIRATION. [26]

Dyspnea and prostration. ~ Organic disease of heart.

COUGH. [27]

Short, hoarse cough, with rawness in larynx and upper part of trachea.
Irritating, sympathetic cough, attending organic disease of heart.
Cough of laryngeal and pulmonary phthisis.

INNER CHEST AND LUNGS. [28]

Asthmatic constriction of chest for half an hour, ending in mucous expectoration.

HEART, PULSE AND CIRCULATION. [29]

Feeling of depression and lowness about heart.
Fluttering of heart, with headache; pulse regular in rhythm, but irregular in force; acute pain and sense of oppression in chest as though a hot iron had been run into it and a hundredweight put upon it; cannot lie a moment on left side, but great relief of pain and breathing on lying on right side.
Chronic nervous palpitation; palpitation after preaching.
Inability to speak, with choking, nervous, chronic palpitation; chronic hypertrophy and valvular disease of heart; considerable pain after riding in a carriage, extending to left scapula; pain not affected by inspiration. ~ Angina pectoris.
Attacks of severe stitching pains in region of heart, during which respirations almost cease and death seems impending. ~ Angina pectoris.
Severe pains in left temple, cardiac and left ovarian regions; great mental depression; aversion to talking; sensation as if heart and ovary were drawn up together; a sense of contraction or drawing together between the organs.
Pressing pain in vertex as from a weight; shortness of breath; palpitation of heart, agg. walking and lying on side; constrictive sensation in cardiac region, as if heart was screwed together; great anxiety; loss of appetite; stool normal; slight enlargement of heart; first sound followed by a grating, second sound accentuated; pulse irregular, weak; pains about heart extending to nape of neck, left shoulder and arm, with anxiety and fear of death; attacks occur frequently during night; pains accompanied by dry cough, particularly emanating from trachea.
Irritating, sympathetic cough in acute stage of rheumatic carditis, and afterwards organic changes in valves, giving rise to tumultuous action of heart, violent, sudden throbbing, attended with endocardial murmur and increased size of organs.
Simple hypertrophy of heart.
For restoration of heart damaged by acute inflammation and for assuaging sufferings of chronic hypertrophy and valvular disease.
Valvular disease, with loud regurgitative sounds; pulse 60, with general anasarca.
Deficient nervous influence of par vagum; dilatation and fatty degeneration of heart.
Threatening paralysis of heart. ~ Diphtheria.

NECK AND BACK. [31]

Cough, laryngismus and even spasmodic stricture of esophagus, result of spinal irritation affecting the nucha.
Pain in back, agg. in evening.
Spinal irritation.

LIMBS IN GENERAL. [34]

Sudden prostration of strength in limbs.
Limbs swollen double natural size. ~ Organic disease of heart.

REST. POSITION. MOTION. [35]

Lying on side: palpitation agg.
Lying on right side: great relief of pain and breathing.
Cannot lie a moment upon left side: pain in chest.
Physical exertion: neuralgic pain in head.
Walking: palpitation agg.

TIME. [38]

Morning: eyelids glued together.
Noon: pain comes on.
All day: headache sometimes lasts.
Afternoon: leucorrhea.
Evening: pain in back agg.
Night: cough agg.; attacks of pain about heart frequent.

TEMPERATURE AND WEATHER. [39]

Cold, very susceptible.

ATTACKS, PERIODICITY. [41]

For half an hour: asthmatic constriction of chest.
For several hours: gasping for breath.
Every morning: awakes with headache.
For some years has not been free from an attack of pain in head for more than two or three days.

LOCALITY AND DIRECTION. [42]

Right: tonsil swollen, with pain; pain in side of neck.
Left: severe pain in orbital region; soreness and pricking in side of throat; crampy pains in ovary; cannot lie upon side; pain from heart to scapula; severe pain in temple and ovarian regions.

SENSATIONS. [43]

Pain as from needles in tonsil; as if there was a hair in larynx; as though a hot iron had been run into it; as if heart and ovary were drawn up together; pain as from a weight in vertex; as if heart was screwed together.
Pain: in head; in spine; in upper part of back; in throat; in right side of neck; in heart; about heart to nape of neck; left shoulder and arm.
Agonizing pain: in head.
Acute pain: in chest.
Severe pain: in left orbital region; in left temple, cardiac and ovarian regions.
Sharp pain: in right tonsil.
Severe stitching pains: in region of heart.
Neuralgic pain: in head; in ovary.
Crampy pains: in left ovary.
Aching: around orbit, increased to throbbing, and thence it was drawing in character to back of head.
Dull shoots: up occiput.
Pressive pain: of stomach; in vertex.
Smarting pain: in back.
Dull pain: in head.
Peculiar burning: of exhaustion.
Soreness: in left side of throat; of stomach.
Pricking: on left side of throat.
Raw feeling: in upper part of trachea; of throat; in larynx.
Depression and lowness: about heart.
Dragging and anxiety: at precordia.
Tired feeling: in cervical and dorsal vertebrae.
Pressure: in throat.
Weight and pressure: at vertex.
Heaviness: over eyes.
Dull, heavy constriction: across forehead.
Constrictive sensation: in cardiac region.

TISSUES. [44]

Acts primarily upon nervous system, especially upon respiratory nerves, the pneumogastric and glosso-pharyngeal.

Touch: larynx tender.
Riding in a carriage: considerable pain in heart.

STAGE OF LIFE, CONSTITUTION. [47]

Woman, aet. 20; cerebrospinal meningitis.
Miss, aet. 26, fair, florid, nervous, sanguine; angina.
Man, aet. 27, dark, bilious temperament; chronic headaches.
Man, aet. 32, baker, eight years ago suffered from obstinate articular rheumatism, six years ago had syphilis; affection of heart.
Woman, aet. 32, feeble, nervous, suffering several years; neuralgia in head.
Woman, aet. 35, mother of four children, has frequently aborted, brother and sister died of consumption, she herself having been homeopathically cured of the disease, a slight dyspnea only remaining; angina pectoris.
Woman, aet. 50, suffering about a year; irritability of heart.
Woman, aet. 56, menses cease eight years ago, since then suffering; headaches.
Woman, aet. 60; headache.
