CHENOPODIUM VULVARIA

Chenopodium Vulvaria.

Stinkender Gnsefuss. Chenopodiaceae.

“This plant has an odor of decaying fish, and contains a large amount of Trimethylamine (Propylamine).” –Allen's Encyclopaedia, vol. 3, p. 180.

Recommended: by Cullen; by Jahn (decoction) in uterine complaints; by Houlton (extract), in 1829, for disturbances of uterine life, insufficient menses, hysteria, etc.; by Helbig (the tincture), in nocturnal enuresis.

Provings, in 1846, with 10 drops of the tincture, by C. Hering on himself and son Max, ten years old, also clinical verifications.

Proving by E. W. Berridge, on Mr. J. R. Croker, Malvern, Worcestershire, with 30 to 40 grains a day of the extract from the entire plant, excepting the root, for three weeks. –Mon. Hom. Review, vol. 15, p. 297.

SENSORIUM. [2]

Feeling of dullness, commencing in both sides of head behind ears, going upward.
Dullness more in back part of head, upper part of occiput, particularly behind both ears.
The dullness or fullness in head returns in waves, and is worse in back part of head.

INNER HEAD. [3]

Tenderness in left parietal region.
Pressure, first on left parietal region, posterior portion, then on vertex.
Pain in left parietal region.
In occiput sense of dullness coming in waves.

HEARING AND EARS. [6]

Dull feeling in ears and region of ears; sensation in right ear as if muffled by an obstruction within.

TASTE, SPEECH, TONGUE. [11]

Peculiar sensation in tongue as if enveloped by saliva.

INNER MOUTH. [12]

Saliva feels cold, particularly in left side of mouth.
Constant cold saliva.

APPETITE, THIRST. DESIRES, AVERSIONS. [14]

Unusual thirst.

EATING AND DRINKING. [15]

Dullness and yawning, amel. after eating.
Better after drinking wine.

SCROBICULUM AND STOMACH. [17]

Sensation of fullness in stomach and scrobiculum.
Acidity with pain in stomach and epigastrium, extending to left side into chest, while in school.

HYPOCHONDRIA. [18]

Stitches in upper part of region of spleen while walking.

ABDOMEN AND LOINS. [19]

Cooling sensation, which is felt first in mouth, later in hypochondriac region, and finally in abdomen.
Twitching in left abdomen, extending towards groins, followed by pain in left forearm.

STOOLS AND RECTUM. [20]

Increased action of bowels, not amounting to actual diarrhea, sometimes attended with griping.
Urging to stool: stool softer than usual.
Constipation improved.
Often constipation, bowels not acting for three or four days, and then with difficulty; constipation was accompanied by external piles.

URINARY ORGANS. [21]

Increased secretion of urine of offensive odor.
Urging to urinate.
Nocturnal enuresis improved the first night.

MALE SEXUAL ORGANS. [22]

Increased sexual desire, followed by diminished desire and erectile power, though secreting power of testicles was not diminished.

FEMALE SEXUAL ORGANS. [23]

(OBS:) Amenorrhea.

INNER CHEST AND LUNGS. [28]

Fullness in chest in region of last ribs.
Feeling in lower lobe of right lung, as if some fluid wanted to discharge itself into region of duodenum.

NECK AND BACK. [31]

Very severe stitching-pressing in right side of back, amel. on bending backward.
Sensitive spot in back, in region of left hypochondrium, soon after having eructated.
Pain directly over spinous process of left scapula, as if pressed by two or three fingers, well marked but transient.
Pain in middle of back, on right side of spinal column, increasing gradually to a pressing, wedge-like pain, beneath right scapula, agg. when sitting.
Painful feeling of weariness and weakness in lumbar and lower dorsal region.

UPPER LIMBS. [32]

Weakness in hands and arms.
Twitching of left forearm while sitting still.
Jerking pain through left forearm like electric shocks, but without muscular contraction, shoots from the forearm to the fingers.
Pain on inner side of left forearm, deep in.
Pain in middle of left radius, particularly severe in small spot.
Stitch in second joint of right index finger.

LOWER LIMBS. [33]

Pricking here and there in legs, and also in other places, compelling him to move.
Pricking and restless feeling in legs in evening; also pricking in other parts of body, causing him to jump; this is accompanied by feeling of fullness, which makes him feel uneasy and restless.
Pain in anterior inner side of left thigh.
Stitching pain through right knee while walking.
Pain in right ankle; severe stitch from within outward.

REST. POSITION. MOTION. [35]

When sitting: pain in back agg.; twitching of left forearm.
Bending back: amel. stitching-pressing in right side of back.
While walking: stitches in spleen; stitches through right knee.
Compelled to move: by pricking in legs and other places.

NERVES. [36]

Lassitude and heaviness through body.
Sensation of heaviness in whole body, which goes through all the limbs, causing a feeling of dullness and languor.

SLEEP. [37]

Yawning.
Frequent yawning preceding lassitude and heaviness.
Somnolence with weakness and lassitude in entire body.
Somnolence with deep inspirations and yawning.

TIME. [38]

In evening: pricking and restless feeling in legs.

ATTACKS, PERIODICITY. [41]

In waves: dullness or fullness in head; dullness in occiput.

LOCALITY AND DIRECTION. [42]

Left: tenderness in parietal region; pain and pressure in parietal region; saliva feels cold in mouth; pain in stomach and epigastrium extend into chest; twitching in abdomen; pain in forearm; sensitive spot in back, region of hypochondrium; pain over spinous process of scapula; twitching of forearm; jerking pain through forearm like electric shocks; pain on inner side of forearm; pain in middle of radius; pain in anterior side of thigh.
Right: muffled sensation in ear; as if fluid wanted to discharge from lower lobe of lung into duodenum; stitching-pressing in back, on side of spinal column, in middle of back; stitch in second joint of index finger; stitching through knee; stitch in ankle.
Both sides: dullness behind ears.
Going upward: dullness behind ears.
Within outward: stitch in right ankle.

SENSATIONS. [43]

Sensation in tongue as if enveloped by saliva.
As if fluid wanted to discharge into duodenum from lower lobe of right lung; spinous process of left scapula as if pressed by two or three fingers.
Pain: in left parietal region; in stomach and epigastrium, extending to left side of chest; in left forearm; over spinous process of left scapula; in middle of back to right of spine; inner side of left forearm; in middle of left radius; in anterior side of left thigh; in right ankle.
Stitch: in spleen; in second joint of right index finger; through right knee; from within outward in right ankle.
Stitching pressing: in right side of back.
Shooting: from forearm to fingers.
Pricking: here and there in legs; in various parts.
Jerking pain: through left forearm like electric shocks.
Twitching: in left abdomen to groins; of left forearm.
Griping: in bowels.
Wedge-like pain: beneath right scapula.
Pressure: left parietal region; on vertex; as from two or three fingers over spinous process of left scapula.
Tenderness: in left parietal region.
Sensitive spot: in back, region of left hypochondrium.
Fullness: in stomach and scrobiculum; in chest, region of last ribs; in legs.
Muffled sensation: in right ear.
Painful weariness: in lumbar and lower dorsal region.
Heaviness: through body.
Cooling sensation: in mouth; in hypochondriac region; in abdomen.
Coldness: of saliva.
Dullness: in both sides of head, behind ears; in upper part of occiput; in region of ears.

RELATIONS. [48]

“Exhales pure ammonia during its whole existence.”
