MIND. [1]

Disinclined to talk, prefers solitude.
Tearful, inclined to weep; sad and homesick.
Anxious in room, amel. in open air.
Worse from mental exertion.
Excited; unhappy; fitful; emotional.
While reading, felt as if some one was reading after her and she must read faster and faster.

SENSORIUM. [2]

Sensation of numbness in forehead, head feels dull; agg. in morning when awaking and when lying; amel. from exercising in open air and wrapping up head.
Congestion of blood to head, with painful undulation and whizzing, as of boiling water on side upon which one rests.
Heaviness in head, reeling, as if one would fall.
Vertigo: in morning, on rising; during dinner; going off in open air.

INNER HEAD. [3]

Every six weeks, pain in forehead and around eyes; feels as if head would burst; must lie down; agg. from motion and in fresh air; amel. from strong pressure and wrapping up head; anorexia; bitter taste; eructations; waterbrash; region of stomach and liver sensitive to pressure; liver hard and enlarged; cannot lie on right side; has stool only after injections; passes small, yellowish grey balls; bilious look to urine, with much mucus; tongue thick coated, tip and edges clear; great thirst; no fever. ~ Cephalalgia.
Compressive sensation in head, from both sides, with a hot feeling, and with beating in forehead when pressing upon it.
Tearing and stitches in temples, with great sensitiveness of vertex, as if hair was raised by pulling.
Griping, raging, in temples, with a feeling as if he would become dizzy and lose consciousness, amel. on pressing head, in evening after lying down.
Sharp sticking and tearing in right side of head, extending to eye, which she was obliged to press together.
Headache, amel. from tying a bandage tight around head, or wrapping up head.

OUTER HEAD. [4]

Tendency of head to sweat.
Nodosities on occiput, tearing, painful to touch.

SIGHT AND EYES. [5]

When looking into light, lachrymation and burning of eyes.
Yellow color of sclerotica.
Eyes inflamed, violent burning and redness of sclerotica.
Nightly agglutination of lids.
Tinea ciliaris, accompanied by a pimply eruption on face, comes and goes; agg. after supper and in a warm room, and on women before menses.

HEARING AND EARS. [6]

Deafness, as if something was lying before ear.
Pulsation in ears.
Itching of old herpes behind ears.

SMELL AND NOSE. [7]

Distressing dryness of nose.
Violent coryza, at one time stopped, at another fluent, dullness of head and complete loss of taste and smell.
Coryza; yellow, fetid mucus, or acrid, corrosive water; nose obstructed at night.
Ulceration of edges of nostrils; picks affected parts; sweat about head and feet. ~ Ozaena.
Rawness of inner surface of alae nasi and of septum narium; yellow scurfs in nose; watery, acrid, mucous discharge, corroding upper lip; obstruction of nose; sore pain and burning agg. from deep breathing, sneezing or touch; agg. in morning; face pale, yellowish.
Redness and swelling of nose or of alae.

UPPER FACE. [8]

Pale, yellowish, earthy complexion; suffering, sickly look.
Severe cramp pains in bones of face; prosopalgia.
Eruptions, pimples and blotches on face and forehead; agg. nights, in warm room, and before menses.

LOWER FACE. [9]

Chapped lips.
Large vesicles on margin of vermillion border of lower lip, itching, afterwards burning.

TEETH AND GUMS. [10]

Toothache almost insupportable when food touches teeth.
Upper incisors seem too long and very sensitive.
Painful swelling and easy bleeding of gums.
Slow dentition, with distended abdomen and constipation.

TASTE, SPEECH, TONGUE. [11]

Tongue feels burnt, mouth scalded.
Rhagades on tongue, with violent burning.
Tongue coated white early in morning; or tip and edges clean, large, flabby and yellow. ~ Induration of liver.

INNER MOUTH. [12]

Whole inner mouth feels as if scalded.
Sensation of roughness on inner side of upper lip when touching it with tongue.
Dryness of mouth and tongue without thirst.
Accumulation of water in mouth.
Continual rising of white froth into mouth.

PALATE AND THROAT. [13]

Dryness and roughness in throat, hoarse voice.
Rising of ball from stomach to throat, amel. by eructation.
Difficult hawking of thick, tough (blood mixed) mucus.

APPETITE, THIRST. DESIRES, AVERSIONS. [14]

Hunger, but knows not for what; ravenous, followed by nausea; inclination to nibble; desire for sweets; for vegetables; agg. from salt things.
Loss of appetite.
Violent thirst (3 A. M.).

HICCOUGH, BELCHING, NAUSEA AND VOMITING. [16]

Hiccough: during and after dinner, so severe as to cause vomiting; region of stomach painful, particularly to pressure.
Regurgitation while walking.
Eructations: tasting like onions; like rotten eggs; relieve faintness and nausea, at dinner.
Waterbrash; stomach and liver sensitive.
Water rises from stomach into mouth, with nausea.
Nausea: in morning, after rising; with accumulation of water in mouth; and faintness, succeeded by coldness and weakness in stomach.

SCROBICULUM AND STOMACH. [17]

Weakness, as if emanating from stomach.
Oppression and throbbing in pit of stomach.
Children are unable to digest milk, it causes pain in stomach and passes undigested. ~ Dentition.
Eroding pain in stomach, going off after eating and coming on again at termination of digestion; tongue clean, too red. ~ Cardialgia.
She is roused from sleep at one o'clock at night by a pain in stomach as if it was cut to pieces; rising into throat of a ball, with suffocating arrest of breathing, and tossing about in bed and on floor for two hours, at last amel. by eructation.
Severe cardialgia; attacks vary in duration; pains pressing, disappear while eating and reappear about an hour afterwards; palpitation, particularly when sitting, amel. by getting up and walking about; in sleeping must lie on left side; on awaking and for about an hour after breakfast feels quite well, then cardialgia sets in and occurs several times during day; stool hard like sheep dung; leucorrhea before menses; menses fourteen days late.
Severe itching and burning in nose, lower part of which is red and sensitive; daily attacks of headache, pain in forehead, amel. from motion, particularly in open air; horripilations; loss of appetite, constant satiety; fat food cannot be tolerated; tongue coated; constipation.

HYPOCHONDRIA. [18]

Pressing pain in liver, when walking and touching it, agg. lying on right side, liver hard and enlarged.
Can lie only on back or affected side, in any other position pain in liver agg.; after eating, pain, flatulency, oppression of chest; dirty, yellow tongue; grey, hard, difficult stool, every three or four days; pulse small, weak, slow; debility; apprehensive, lachrymose. ~ Affection of liver.
Weight in hypochondriac region; cannot lie on left side on account of sensation as of something dragging over to that side. ~ Affection of liver.
Hemorrhoids; much irritation about anus; stools knotty and slimy; enlargement and tenderness of right ovary; dragging down pain from right ovary to thigh. ~ Affection of liver.
Stools large and lumpy, covered with slimy mucus of various colors, from light yellow to green, and dark green or leaden; appetite irregular; pains in epigastric region about an hour before food; yellowish hue of face; abdomen large; bowels move once a week. ~ Affection of liver.
Chronic induration of liver, pressive pain extending to back and stomach; face dark yellow; tongue dirty, yellowish; bowels distended and hard, with pressure and heaviness; stool hard, grey; urine turbid; dyspnea; palpitation; edema of feet up to calves of legs; weak, emaciated; fearful, easily frightened. ~ Affection of liver.
Attacks of gastralgia every evening; tenderness in hypogastric region; anteversion of uterus; enlargement of liver; stools very dark, occurring once in four days; heavy weight in right hypochondrium, could not rest on right side. ~ Derangement of liver.
Recurring attacks of indigestion, biliousness, constipation, with large, hard motions like balls and inability to lie on right side; menses too profuse, often and long, with excessive uterine pains; disposed to eat frequently, on account of gnawing at pit of stomach, amel. by small quantity of food, but made agg. by more. ~ Enlargement and congestion (induration) of liver.
Dull, aching, tensive pain in hypochondriac region, going through to right scapula; inability to lie on right side, doing so causes more pain; dyspnea; irregular action of heart, sometimes beating loudly; urine scanty and high colored, slightly albuminous; feet and legs edematous; epigastric and right hypochondriac region tender to touch; colicky pains and flatulency in abdomen; stools of bullet shaped masses every three or four days; area of liver dullness greatly increased laterally and downward; free edge of it felt extending two and a half inches below ribs and bulging outward, but feeling hard. ~ Enlargement and congestion of liver.
Hepatic affections with tendency to hemorrhages from various organs.
Marked enlargement of liver, accompanied by ascites.

ABDOMEN AND LOINS. [19]

Drawing pain in abdomen at night.
Tearing in abdomen; tearing stitches in loins.
Cramps in abdomen.
Colic in evening, extending to thighs, followed by fluor albus; hysteria.
Colic at 1 A. M., had to lie crooked; could not endure covering.
Chronic, painful hardness of right side of abdomen.
Distended abdomen with constipation.
Abdomen tense, sore as if bruised, sensitive to touch.
Rumbling, cutting, pinching in abdomen.
Tingling, stinging in abdominal muscles.
Troubles from tapeworm.

STOOLS AND RECTUM. [20]

Diarrhea: of mucus and blood; in evening and at night; pain in stomach; great chilliness after getting into bed; chronic looseness.
Since parturition, five weeks ago, diarrhea, particularly in morning; chilliness during stool; loss of appetite; rumbling in abdomen.
Stools: covered with mucus and blood; greenish, papescent; in large, hard lumps; crumbling at verge of anus; abdomen distended; hard, knotty, like sheep dung; insufficient, delayed; crumbling at verge of anus and seem as if burnt.
She was obliged to hurry to stool, which was crumbly and as if burnt, with sticking pains in rectum, followed by burning in anus.
A child, aet. 2, for several months diarrhea and cough, finally constipation, great effort and pain to bring forth a stool, which crumbles to pieces as soon as it escapes rectum.
Constipation since last confinement, two years ago; stools large and in hard lumps; bowels move about every eight days; every few days has much pain and distress in hypogastric region; pale and weak, otherwise well.
Poor, puny, rachitic children, with enlargement of abdomen; liver unduly large; appetite irregular, fond of sweets; stools small, hard, dry, passed with difficulty. ~ Constipation.
Constipation of infants during dentition.
Absence of desire for stool; atony as with the bladder.
Much pressure to stool; passage scanty or only flatus.
Before stool: painful urging.
During stool: painful urging and occasional discharge of mucus; pressure with scanty passage or only flatus; burning at anus and pain as if from excoriation.
After stool: burning at anus, shuddering for a short time.

URINARY ORGANS. [21]

Frequent desire to urinate day and night, with scanty discharge.
Urine can only be passed by bearing down with abdominal muscles; atony of bladder.
Urine passed only by drops, some always seem to remain.
Urine pale yellow, followed by burning in urethra.
Numbness of urethra.

MALE SEXUAL ORGANS. [22]

Frequent erections; early in morning, with burning in penis.
After an embrace, burning pain in back.
Nocturnal involuntary emissions with or without dreams; scrotum relaxed and loose and often covered with perspiration; constipation; indigestion; biliousness; itching at anus.
Itching on genitals and scrotum, extending as far as anus.
Scrotum relaxed.

FEMALE SEXUAL ORGANS. [23]

Bearing down in ovarian region.
Scirrhous indurations of os uteri.
Uterine diseases complicated with hysterical complaints.
Uterine spasms extend to thighs, followed by fluor albus.
Menses: with great excitement at every period; flow black, clotted; profuse and early or late, with violent pains, agg. in back when walking and in thighs when sitting, pale face, debility, nervous excitement; suppressed.
Metrorrhagia agg. at night in bed, causing hysteria.
Menstrual pains amel. by having back pressed.
Leucorrhea: watery, thick, followed immediately by discharge of blood; after exercise; with every stool; following uterine spasm; followed by metrorrhagia; agg. in morning after urinating; two weeks after menses, lasting three or four days; profuse, continuing almost without intermission.
Metrorrhagia of old maids, blood clotted; after abuse of mercury.

PREGNANCY. PARTURITION. LACTATION. [24]

Nausea and vomiting during pregnancy; hepatic disorder previous to marriage, or uterine spasms with metrorrhagia.
Labor pain, interrupted by hysterical spasms.

VOICE AND LARYNX. TRACHEA AND BRONCHIA. [25]

Hoarseness, with roughness and dryness of throat; in morning after rising.
Tingling in larynx.

RESPIRATION. [26]

Oppressed breathing, greater after a meal.
Globus hystericus and oppression of breath.

COUGH. [27]

Dry cough evening and night, with burning and soreness in chest.
Spasmodic cough at night, with tickling in throat.
Spasmodic cough caused by tickling in throat; no expectoration in evening or at night; during day, watery but at the same time tough, yellowish, occasionally purulent expectoration, of fatty taste and offensive odor and at times mixed with lumps of blood; agg. evening until midnight, rest, sitting, lying in bed, deep breathing, air of room, eating, ascending steps, speaking, fatty foods or fruit. ~ Whooping cough.
Bloody expectoration brought on by sea bathing.

INNER CHEST AND LUNGS. [28]

Sudden heaviness of chest, with oppression of breathing, at dinner.
Tension and constriction of chest.
Constrictive pain in chest and scapulae.
Congestion of blood to chest from bathing in sea; bloody expectoration; great weakness.

HEART, PULSE AND CIRCULATION. [29]

Stitches in heart, taking away breath.
Palpitation of heart and cardiac pain while sitting, going off on motion.
Pulse accelerated, with ebullitions while sitting.

NECK AND BACK. [31]

Swelling of cervical glands.
Pain as from bruises, above and in small of back and both hips, with sensitiveness of parts to touch; also during menses.
Contractive, spasmodic pain in small of back.
Stitches, tearing and burning in small of back.

UPPER LIMBS. [32]

Rheumatic pain in shoulder joint, extending down arm to hands; agg. from motion.
Tearing pains in shoulders, arms, wrists and hands.
The arms “go to sleep” when awaking in morning.

LOWER LIMBS. [33]

Sensation of great fatigue in legs, even while sitting.
Heaviness in legs.
Twitching, tearing in hips.
Restlessness and tense feeling in thighs, must move legs for relief.
Pressing pain in knees.
Cramps in calves at night.
Burning in soles, evenings.
Foot sweat.

LIMBS IN GENERAL. [34]

Much weakness in limbs. ~ Uterus displaced.
Paralytic drawing and tearing in limbs.

REST. POSITION. MOTION. [35]

Rest: cough agg.
Lying: dullness of head agg.; griping, raging in temples; cough agg.
Must lie down: pain in forehead.
Must lie crooked: colic.
Cannot lie on right side: liver sensitive.
Must lie on left side: palpitation.
Cannot lie on left side: something (liver) seems to drag to that side.
On side upon which one rests: sensation as of boiling water.
Can lie only on back or affected side: pain in liver.
Sitting: palpitation; pains in thighs; cough agg.; pulse accelerated, with ebullitions; great fatigue in legs.
Motion: headache agg.; pain in forehead amel.; palpitation amel.; rheumatic pain in shoulder, arm and hand agg.
Must move legs: restlessness amel.
Exercise in open air: amel. dullness of head; leucorrhea.
Getting up and walking: palpitation amel.
Walking: regurgitation; pressing pain in liver; pains in back.
Ascending steps: cough agg.
Tossing about in bed and on floor for two hours: pain in stomach.

NERVES. [36]

General sensation of soreness, with great sensitiveness to noise.
Hysterical and spasmodic complaints; uterine troubles.
Many spasms day and night, sleeplessness; fainting fits at table, nausea and trembling, amel. by eructations. ~ Hysteria.
Weakness and chill, agg. during hysterical paroxysm.
Great weakness from a sea bath.
Weakness of body as if coming from stomach.
Fainting fits at dinner, nausea and trembling, amel. by eructations.

SLEEP. [37]

Sleepiness during day, with yawning and sluggishness.
Goes to sleep late; sleeplessness on account of nightly heat, with thirst.
Restlessness of body as soon as she closes eyes; evening in bed.
Shocks through body at night, while waking.
Sleep unrefreshing; tired in morning.
Anxious, frightful dreams, with talking and crying out during sleep.

TIME. [38]

Morning: dullness in head agg.; on rising vertigo; burning in nose; tongue coated white; nausea; diarrhea; frequent erections; leucorrhea agg.; roughness and dryness of throat; arms “go to sleep;” is tired.
At 1 A. M.: pain in stomach; colic.
At 3 A. M.: violent thirst.
Day: frequent desire to urinate; expectoration watery but tough; many spasms; sleepiness.
At dinner sudden heaviness of chest, with oppression of breathing; fainting fits.
From 4 to 8 P. M.: chill agg.
After supper: tinea ciliaris agg.
Evening: after lying down, pain in temples; colic in evening; diarrhea; dry cough; cough agg. till midnight; burning in soles; in bed, restlessness of body; heat.
Evening till 12 P. M.: heat.
Night: obstruction of nose; eruption on face and forehead; drawing pain in abdomen; diarrhea; frequent desire to urinate; metrorrhagia agg. in bed; dry cough; spasmodic cough; cramps in calves; many spasms; shocks through body.
From 12 P. M. till morning: sweat.

TEMPERATURE AND WEATHER. [39]

Sensitive to cold air.
Great disposition to take cold.
Warm wrapping up of head: amel. dullness of head; amel. pain in forehead.
Warm room: tinea ciliaris agg.; eruption on face and forehead agg.
Near stove: chill.
In room: cough agg.
After getting into bed: great chilliness; chill amel.
Open air: anxious feeling amel.; dullness amel.; vertigo amel.; headache agg.; pain in forehead amel.; chill amel.
Sea bathing: bloody expectoration; great weakness.
Aversion to uncovering.

FEVER. [40]

Chill: even near stove; agg. from 4 to 8 P. M.; amel. in open air or in bed; chill followed by heat, evening, until 12 P. M.
Evening heat, thirst; averse to uncovering.
Sweat: on head or feet; with thirst, from 12 P. M. till morning.

ATTACKS, PERIODICITY. [41]

One hour before food: pain in epigastric region.
For one hour after breakfast: feels quite well, then cardialgia.
Several times during day: cardialgia.
Daily: attacks of pain in head.
Every evening: gastralgia.
Nightly: agglutination of lids; heat, with thirst.
Every three or four days: difficult stools.
Once in four days: stool.
Once a week: bowels moved.
Every eight days: bowels move.
Fourteen days late: menses.
Two weeks after menses: leucorrhea for three or four days.
Since parturition five weeks ago: diarrhea.
Every six weeks: pain in forehead and around eyes.

LOCALITY AND DIRECTION. [42]

Right: tearing in side of head; tenderness of ovary; dragging pain from ovary; weight in hypochondrium; could not rest on side; pain in scapula; hypochondrium tender to touch; painful hardness of abdomen.
Left: must lie on side; cannot lie on side.

SENSATIONS. [43]

Boring and spasmodic, contractive pains.
General sensation of soreness, with great sensitiveness to noises.
