Murex Purpurea.

A Mollusc. Muricidae.

A sea snail found on the coasts of the Mediterranean and Adriatic. The coloring matter, from which is obtained a fine red, is contained in a sac situated between the heart and liver.

Great depression of spirits, a sort of deep hypochondria. ~ Carcinoma uteri.
Deep sadness at approach of menses, all her symptoms gave her great concern; seemed to her she was hopelessly ill; she gave up everything. ~ Climaxis.
She is happier when leucorrhea is worse and vice versa. ~ Prolapsus uteri.
Weakness of memory and difficult of connecting words.


Inexpressible anguish and frequent syncope until menses appeared.


Headache in morning on waking, going off after rising.
Heaviness of head; confusion.


Cramp pains behind ears.


Coldness of nose all day.


Burning of right cheek towards evening, and of left cheek early in morning.


Sinking of stomach; stomach seemed to be gone.


Sensation as of creeping of a snake over entire region of short ribs, left side.


Painful weariness of loins. ~ Uterine disease.
Sensation of weight in hypogastrium. ~ Climaxis.
Painful aching in whole hypogastrium; bearing down. ~ Uterine disease.
Enlargement and great sensitiveness of bowels, with sharp pain running from groin to socket of right hip.


Sensation of weight, more particularly in rectum. ~ Climaxis.
Heavy weight pressing upon rectum; swelling of hemorrhoids. ~ Uterine disease.
During stool: bloody leucorrhea; discharge of pure blood by vulva.


Urine smelling like valerian, with white sediment and discharge of mucus after urinating.
Constant urging to urinate, with profuse light, clear discharges, like water; specific gravity 1002; containing neither sugar nor albumen; no pain while urinating; patient pale, thin, delicate. ~ Polyuria.
Constant desire to pass water; must rise often at night to urinate.
Discharge of some blood urinating.


Violent excitement in sexual organs, and excessive desire for an embrace; excited by least contact of parts.
Large cyst, supposed to be connected with left ovary, occupied space between rectum, uterus and vagina, so as to obliterate posterior cul de sac and almost occlude vagina; abdomen somewhat distended; confined to her room and bed for more than a year.
A distinct feeling of the womb.
Feeling as if internal genitals were being pushed out, with great nausea and faintness.
Sore pain as if wounded by cutting instruments in uterus.
Leucorrhea, accompanied by improvement of mental depression.
Sore pain of uterus.
Acute pain in right side of uterus, which crossed entire body and extended upwards to left breast.
Violent stitches in left side of uterus, from below upwards, in evening.
Beating in uterus.
Feeling of dryness and constriction of uterus.
Tumefaction of cervix, with several deep fissures.
After unusually violent exercise was suddenly subjected to terrible mental excitement; bearing down sensations; feeling as if internal organs were being pushed out, with great nausea and faintness, a peculiarly distressed sinking sensation in epigastrium; prolapsus of uterus with elongation of cervix. ~ Uterine affection.
Soreness in region of cervix, or a feeling as if something was pressing on a sore spot in pelvis, with pain in right side of uterus going into abdomen or thorax, with watery, greenish, irritating leucorrhea discharge; dragging and relaxation in perineum; pains in hips, loins and down thighs and great suffering from exertion. ~ Ulceration of os uteri.
A soft violet colored enlargement of neck of uterus.
A large excoriation on anterior aspect of neck of uterus, was caused to bleed by a slight touch. ~ Climaxis.
Dysmenorrhea and symptoms of prolapsus uteri; pain and weakness in back; downward pressure in uterine region; after being a long time on feet must sit down and cross legs in order to amel. pressure; yellowish leucorrhea; menses every two weeks, very scanty and lasting but two days, preceded by severe labor-like pains, and accompanied by severe headache and great painfullness of breasts; weakness in stomach; impaired appetite; constipation; occasionally hemorrhoids; sleep disturbed, many dreams; great weakness; slightest exertion tires her; poor complexion; very irritable, during pain impatient at herself and others; cries at times for hours; no hysteria.
Sensation of pressure towards genitals; heavy weight pressing upon rectum; swelling of hemorrhoids; greenish yellow leucorrhea, sometimes bloody, and discharges of pure blood by vulva at stool; thrilling pains in lower extremities; painful weariness in loins and in nates; very great debility, rendering walking very difficult, often impossible, at period of menses; painful aching in whole hypogastrium, causing an inexpressible anguish and frequent syncope, which ceased when menses began to appear; menses excessive, accompanied by spasms in abdomen, with sharp lancinations in uterus; several deep fissures in tumefied cervix; body of uterus enlarged and much inclined forward, cervix resting upon posterior wall of pelvis. ~ Uterine affection.
Carcinoma uteri; very great depression of spirits, a sort of deep hypochondria.
Flow lasting ten to twelve days, became russet colored, finally serous. ~ Climaxis.
Interval of periods ten days. ~ Climaxis.
Menses too profuse; hemorrhages.
Frequent profuse menses; strong sexual desire.
Profuse and too early menses.
Menses irregular, at the approach sadness; very abundant for several days and with great pain.

Debility at time of menses.
Leucorrhea: scanty, greenish, or mixed with blood; scanty, thick, yellow; agg. during day; none during night; relieves depression.
Expelling large coagula. ~ Climaxis.
Feeling of heaviness in vagina during colic.
Feeling of heaviness and enlargement of labia majora.
Itching with leucorrhea. ~ Climaxis.


In the beginning of pregnancy sensation as if bones of pelvis were getting loose.
Leucorrhea in pregnancy.
Violent pains, acute stitches in mamma.


Altered voice, hoarseness.

Pain in chest as if bruised.
Stinging and burning under left short ribs towards spine.

Palpitation of heart and throbbing of carotids.
Pulse small and frequent during periods. ~ Climaxis.


Pain in forearm below elbow.
Heat in hands.


Weakness in hip joints. ~ Pregnancy.
Pain (burning as if sore) in loins.
Pains in hips and loins when lying in bed.
Great weakness and weariness in lower limbs.
Weariness and contused sensation in thighs.
Thrilling pains in lower limbs; weariness in nates.
Intolerable creeping pain in right hip, kept him from getting ease in any position.


A kind of uncertainty in walking, all joints weak. ~ Pregnancy.
Walking or standing for a long time became almost impossible. ~ Climaxis.
She was obliged to go to bed and lie there; had no strength left.
Lying in bed: pain in hips and loins.
Cannot get ease in any position: pain in right hip.
After violent exercise: bearing down sensation.
After being a long time on feet must sit down and cross legs to amel. pressure in uterine region.
Exertion: causes great suffering.
Walking: very difficult from great debility.

In morning: on waking, headache amel. after rising; early burning of left cheek.
All day: coldness of nose.
Day: leucorrhea agg.
Towards evening: burning of right cheek.
Evening: stitches in uterus; wheezing in chest when breathing.
Night: must rise often to urinate; no leucorrhea; pain in breast agg.

A copious sweat covered body during suffering at menstrual period. ~ Climaxis.


For hours: cries at times.
Ten days: interval of periods.
Ten to twelve days: flow lasts.
Every two weeks: menses, lasting two days.
Until menses appear: anguish and frequent syncope.
At approach of menses: deep sadness.
During menses: great debility; pulse small and frequent; a copious sweat covered body.
Beginning of pregnancy: sensation as if bones of pelvis were loose.
During pregnancy: leucorrhea.
During and after measles: cough.
For more than a year: confined to her bed and room.


Right: burning of cheek; sharp pain from groin to socket of hip; acute pain in side of uterus; pain agg. in breast; intolerable creeping pain in hip.

Thrilling pain: in lower extremities.

Sore pain: in uterus.
Stinging: under left short ribs; towards spine.
Soreness: in region of cervix.
Contused sensation: in chest; in thighs.
Burning: of right cheek; of left cheek; under left short ribs towards spine.
Heat: in hands.
Beating: in uterus.
Painful aching: in hypogastrium, bearing down.
Painful weariness: of loins; in nates.
Throbbing: in carotids.
Constriction: in uterus.
Pressure: in uterine region; towards genital organs.
Weight: in hypogastrium; in rectum.
Heaviness: of head; in vagina; of labia majora.
Distressed sinking: in epigastrium; of stomach.
Dryness: in uterus.
Confusion: of head.
Weakness: in back; in stomach; in hip joints; in lower limbs.
Itching: with leucorrhea.
Coldness: of nose.


All joints weak; uterine affections.


Least contact of parts: causes bleeding of excoriation on neck of bladder.


Melancholic or sanguine lymphatic temperament.
Suffering during climacteric years.
Girl, aet. 13, pale faced, thin and delicate, suffering one week; polyuria.
Girl, aet. 18, suffering one or two years; dysmenorrhea.
Woman, aet. 28, seven years ago had a miscarriage, and subsequently prolapsus uteri and ulceration of cervix; uterine affection.
Woman, aet. 30, mother of two children, suffering seven years; prolapsus uteri and dysmenorrhea.
Woman, aet. 30, sanguine lymphatic temperament, mother of two children, was subject in infancy to violent attacks of cough, caused by congestion to lungs, the result of a psoric taint (retrocession of itch), these attacks ceased to appear about the time of her first pregnancy, since when he has been suffering; uterine affection.
Woman, aet. 30, suffering eight days; polyuria.
Woman confined to room and bed for more than a year; ovarian cyst.
Woman, aet. 45, mother of several children whole she nursed, health has always been good; uterine affection.


Compare: Sepia, which is very similar, but has not the sexual erethism; Lil. tig. and Platina. are similar in nymphomania; Kreos. has similar urinary symptoms.
